The everyday computer problems, actually fixed.

Printers that won't stay connected. Computers that got slow. An update that broke something. I come to your office, fix it properly, and write down what I changed.

The printer that keeps dropping off the network

Almost every office I walk into has one. It works Monday. By Thursday nobody can print, so somebody restarts it, and that buys another week. Everyone has quietly agreed this is normal.

It usually isn't the printer. It's that the printer was set up to grab whatever address the router handed it that day, and the router eventually hands it a different one. The computers are still looking at the old address. I give the printer a fixed address, point the computers at it, and it stops happening.

That is most of this job. Small things that nobody owns, that everybody works around, that take twenty minutes to fix properly once somebody looks at them.

What I actually get called for

  • Printers that stop working, print blank pages, or vanish from half the computers in the office
  • Computers that have gotten slow enough that people have started avoiding them
  • A Windows update that changed something and now a program won't open
  • Email that stopped sending, or is going to junk on the other end
  • Setting up a new computer so it has everything the old one had
  • Getting files off a machine that is dying, or already dead
  • Software that worked for years and now throws an error nobody understands
  • A person starting or leaving, and their accounts and access need sorting out

What a visit looks like

You call or text. I ask enough questions to know whether I can fix it from here or need to come out. A lot of things get solved remotely in ten minutes, and I would rather do that than charge you for a drive.

If I do come out, I look at the actual problem first, not a list of upsells. I tell you what's wrong in plain language, what it takes to fix, and what it costs before I start. Then I fix it. If I can't, you don't pay.

Before I leave, I write down what I changed, so next time either of us can look it up instead of guessing.

One person, start to finish. You get me on the phone, and I'm the one who shows up. There's no ticket number, no first-tier script, and nobody asking you to describe your setup again from scratch.

Two jobs from this year

A Sandpoint real estate office lost the ability to scan documents to their server. Their network storage, the printer's scan settings, and their WiFi were all tangled together, and nobody could tell which piece had broken. I worked through all three and got them scanning again.

A Ponderay automotive shop's dyno control computer stopped working after a Windows update, and the manufacturer quoted around $5,000 to replace the hardware and software. I traced it to an unsigned driver, then to a memory leak in the software itself, and got their existing setup running again.

What it costs

It's $150 for me to come out, and that covers the first hour of diagnosing. Once I know what's actually wrong, I quote you a flat price for the fix, so you decide with a real number in front of you instead of watching a clock run.

No contract and no monthly minimum. This is job by job. The one thing I'd suggest putting on a monthly footing is backup, and that stands on its own.
